Microphotography in Golden Rectangles

These colorful Golden Rectangles are wonderful examples of the abstract and fractal structure of nature at the microscopic scale, and some of the THIN SECTIONS SERIES I images were used in my recent triple Golden Rectangle photomontages. Thin sections (very thin slices of rock), and chemical crystals were photographed using a Zeiss polarizing microscope at 20-60x magnification with a Leitz-Wild 35-mm camera. The thin sections were prepared by John Schaffer - thanks to Doug Hurcomb for assistance with the polarizing scope. I prepared the chemical crystal slides. Butterfly and moth microphotos were taken using an Olympus dissection microscope with a Nikon F-2 film camera - thanks to S. Mark Nelson and his collection of mounted butterflies. Vascular plant microphotos of prepared slides were taken with a Zeiss phase-contrast microscope at 20-60x with a Zeiss M-35 camera - thanks to Denise Hosler for her assistance. I used Fuji Provia slide film and then scanned the slides at 3,200 dpi using an Epson 1680 scanner.
